North Wales, 24 October. About 50 volunteers braved the stormy weather to hear United States Senator Bob Casey at the United Steelworkers Local 10 in North Wales. Steelworker's Vice President Phil Hughes thanked everyone for coming out to support the slate and introduced all of the elected officials in attendance, including Senator Casey, Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz, State Representative Rick Taylor, and North Wales Mayor Doug Ross. Hughes also introduced the state-wide candidates Judge Jack Panella (supreme court), Kevin McCarthy (superior court), and Teresa Sarmina (superior court) who were there to show their support for our county judicial candidates. The seven candidates,
Cheryl Lynne Austin, Joel Bernbaum, Richard Haaz, Jeff Lindy, Lois Murphy, Michael Shields, and Ann Thornburg Weiss, were thrilled with the turnout and many donned ponchos in preparation to canvass the neighborhood.
"It all happens here in Montgomery County," Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz asserted. She continued talking about the importance of our votes to not only our local candidates and county judiciary, but in electing our state-wide judicial candidates.
Congresswoman Schwartz introduced Senator Casey who rallied the volunteers to: "Stay dry, canvas, and vote." Using a megaphone he encouraged everyone to talk to their friends and neighbors about the importance of voting. He noted that our county judicial candidates have the "experience, ability and integrity" necessary to serve on the bench. Casey also discussed the significance of electing Judge Jack Panella to the Supreme Court and introduced him to the crowd. Panella received a warm welcome and spoke briefly about why the judicial races are so important.
After the rally, volunteers fanned out across the area to canvass. Senator Casey walked with Judge Panella, Kevin McCarty (superior court candidate), Mayor Ross, and two judicial campaign field organizers knocking on doors and talking with residents about the significance of the upcoming election.
